THE STATE OF THE WIKI (or Primus Database) 2013*

As you all prob know, Primus Database is down.

The reason for this is, the host that was supporting the site basically cut and run, maybe from money troubles or some other thing. What does this mean?

Well, in a nutshell, everything that was cached on the new site can be considered lost.

This happened at a terrible time, as I have a seasonal job and won't be able to dedicate the time needed to reinstate a new Mediawiki site for a new Primus Database.

I'll have updates soon.

The Moderation Staff of the New Site are as follows...
As of 2013:

Bureaucrats and Administrators
@U4Dandy - Primus name "U4Dandy"
@Doctor_Awesome - Primus name "DoctorAwesome"

Administrators
@BobFromAccounting - Primus name "Destructor"
@FrozenViolet - Primus name "FrozenViolet"
@Cucho500 - Primus name "Cucho5000"

For any aspiring members of PDB and/or CORP looking to assist the Wiki in any fashion they can contact me, 'DoctorAwesome'. You can reach me at Johnnyducker@gmail.com or PMing me at Primus or CORP. Email, as of now, is the fastest way to contact both of us.

A. You CAN recommend your own works on PDB.
B. Any namecalling or callouts in your vote will be deleted upon detection.
C. You can only vote once a month.
D. You SHOULD be saying why you are voting for a page.

What NOT to Do!
E.G. - I am voting for X - @DocAwesome
What to Do!
E.G. - I am voting for X because of his Y being very creatively written, as well as his Z being witty, intelligent, and gracefully gripping. - @DocAwesome

And lastly, and I cannot stress this enough. Primus Database's members/health strictly grows on a referral system. Posting that your character read up on in your ingame CO bio, linking the site to friends, publishing stories/RP material for people to use in your own personal RPs. I encourage all of this. The health of the Wiki really relates to - A. The state of the Game's Community and B. The act of referring Primus Database to others.

You can also just drop me a line on the forums here, although I might be a bit slower to reply.

Thank youuuu!

I like how Thundrax's PRIMUS name is Blue Bruiser.

The Wiki is in a pretty cool state - even if I haven't used it in AGES.

Also, congratulations Mr. Bushido!

Bump for two things.

FrozenViolet has joined the Primus Moderators and is doing a massive sweeping changes to the catagories. Next time you see her in game or toiling away, thank her for streamlining all your pages.

Do it or I will find you using the skills I have learned watching Liam Neeson.

Secondly, Thundrax has been re-added to the Administration staff as his own personal account.

Bump for a small update to Primus Database.

Diveal suggested in THIS THREAD that Primus Database assumes a 'Current Events' page for people's arcs.

I'm changed and updated the navigation and added a Current RP Events page on Primus Database. The site has also been purged, which SHOULD update the navigation for everyone. If It does NOT, keep in mind a Wikipedia is an aggressive catalog, and should update through all members pages in hours.

The current uptime for RP posts is 2 weeks before deletion. That said, we can easily switch that to two weeks before being catalogged.

Something I notice while randoming through the Database: since the addition of the new Current RP events, on some pages, the left sidebar sometimes reverts back to its old set up with the old Current Events and (nonexistant) Community Portal.

A bump for this topic. Not a gripe or a complaint, but I feel like something needs to happen in regards to the Page of the Month nomination and voting policies.

For this next round of nominations there's a lot of lashing out against people who try to nominate their own pages (yes, myself included, but I retracted my vote because of the backlash), yet there's no clear rule stating that it can't be done other than what can be considered simple common courtesy. So whether or not the arguments being made have been justified or not, there needs to be a clear policy stating if it's acceptable or not to nominate one's own page.

I figured I'd post and try to put a stop to it. Just unnecessary.

Here we are, Patrons of Primus! Ye old favorite time of the great Mythos, the MONTH!

Recommendations for PAGE OF YE OLDE MONTH are being taken. The PAGE OF THE MONTH will be declared on the 7ths and every 7th, every month!

Please post your recommendations for GODLY AND GRAND pages, worthy of the heroic title, PAGE OF THE MONTH!

These recommendations must be accompanied with why you believe the page should be PAGE OF THE MONTH!

*ripped from the Page of the Month

That is the entire ruleset of the Page of the Month. Nominating your own pages is entirely and wholeheartedly acceptable, and this will never change.

On this note, since it has been brought to me several times. Yes, Page of the Month is a Popularity Contest. No, not a popularity contest of the Player, but of the page. The pages that win are popular because of their content, stylized layout, and art/work people put into the pages.

If the self-nomination thing is acceptable, I think it wouldn't hurt to actually add it to the ruleset to be absolutely clear. Rule of the internet: if you don't read it, it doesn't exist.

In general, as much as this is supposed to be a fun thing, I think the medieval tone of how the rules are persented is... rather unnecessary.

I've always thought of it to be common courtesy not to put votes on oneself, and even if my position on the matter remains unchanged I will respect your position as it is your website after all. Though Im fairly certain that Im not speaking for myself when I say that I will never put a vote on a selfpromoter, even if it's within the limits of the rules.

As you may or may not have noticed, PDB is running pretty slow recently and I reckon it won't be long before its taken offline by my host again (this happened for a few days around this time last year).

I am currently trying to reduce the server load (mainly CPU usage) with one or two things, but if this doesn't resolve the issue it may be time to look at setting up PDB elsewhere.

The only options I can think of are a Wikia site and have the domain pointing there or to get a VPS host for the site. The main problem with the VPS option is that I do not know the expected serverload and in turn the expected monthly cost for this, if I had to guess I would say that this is likely to be around $30 to $50 a month.

I do love the idea of PDB, but in the past 2 years I have probably spent less than 20 hours on Champions Online whilst still paying for the domain and the shared server hosting costs for this. So the only way the VPS option is going to occur is if the community covers the cost of this.

I just thought I'd post this, just to let you all know that I am trying to resolve the slowdowns but it may end up that Wikia or VPS are the only valid resolutions.

Thanks for reading.

No other Wiki engine will provide as much customization to a page as the one PDB is currently using.

I'm sorry, but it's the little things that make me love using it as it is, now.

I really think PDB is invaluable as a tool to chronicle your characters and to form connections with other characters. We must keep it alive <3
