I for one would be willing to help foot the cost of this bill so long as others chip in.

Same here. Heck, if you split it enough ways everyone will just be paying pocket change.

I would too. Just let me know where and how to get things your way, u4dandy.

Thank you for the positive responses guys,

I must admit I am going into this a little blind as I haven't dealt with such an intensive site before (PDB). So it looks like a VPS will be the best option and as I am somewhat inexperienced with these things I will require one which provides Cpanel. I have been looking into this and I will continue to look for the best price for the sites needs.

But this situation has also made me think of when I first set up the site, I didn't take a lot of direction from those who are knowledgable in the lore and simply chose "Primus Database" as the name, so now I am wondering if you guys think it may be worthwhile to start the wiki from scratch with a new name such as Until or such like? Or would everyone prefer to have the site moved to a new host rather than starting from scratch.

Thanks for your kind words, I'll keep looking in to the VPS options and keep you updated.

Ok update!

I have been able to secure alternative hosting arrangements so I will now make plans to transfer the wiki from the current host, to the new host.

I will provide further updates as I have them.

While I do the prep work I was wondering if you guys were interested in changing the database name or if you wish to keep this as Primus?

I think the name is great as it is :) Anyone else have any comments on that? It's been our traditional name over the years and seems to fit.

Thanks for taking care of this, u4dandy! You are awesome! <3

The name is fine, in my opinion. It's been PDB for so long that having it be anything else would be awkward.

And thanks a lot for the effort you're putting into this, u4dandy. It's been great of you to keep maintaining it despite not actively taking part in the game itself!

Can't add anything there.

I think it'd be wise to keep it PDB.

Ok not a problem.

In the period of migrating servers there may be a few days where the new and old wikis would be uneditable to allow easy transfer. Due to my current work schedule this may be done with little or no notice.

Thanks for the kind words.

Ok, so Primus Database is going to be offline for any edits until I get us migrated to the new server, unsure how long this will take as I have to make sure that everything (over 10Gb of data) is migrated and working on the new server.

Thank you for your patience in this matter.

P.S. Could someone do me a huge favour and post update the Official forums to whats going on? I cannot start a new post as I have only just started up my PWE account.

Thanks for that Bob.

Right potentially some bad news, the database is simply too big to download, the only other option would be to manually export individual table rows but this will take far too long. I have tried to backup the MySQL database through three different methods, but all result in an incomplete backup. In fact the filesize of these backups are smaller than the biggest table on its own, which is likely the biggest problem.

This means we might only have two options, keep PDB on it's current server where it is struggling during peak times or we keep the old wiki alive for reference (no edits) and start the new wiki on the better server and you guys (the users) transfer the files as you require them.

I'll keep trying to move the server and I'll post any updates as I have them.

I've already made backups of my pages' code. If worse comes to worse, I'm ok with starting new.

I'd be fine with manually transferring my own pages over. It'd also free up the pages from the inactive users.

This. Although it might be a hassle for some people with templates. I don't know how wikis work.
