I'd still keep a lookout in case it pops up again for others, but it's good to hear some positive progress.

I'd like to extend an apology for the possible inconveniences people may have had accessing the PDb site for a short time last night. I know that I had some loading issues in the evening after doing some moderation work... which leads into my next point, actually.

We actually got a few spam pages last night. While this particular wave's been taken care of for now, I would like to remind users to remain cautious and definitely let a Database mod know if any more pop up before we get to 'em.

I just want to extend a thanks to FrozenViolet for moving most of my stuff over from the old PDB. Awesome!

I hastily wrote an April Fool's joke at 5pm (aka way too late for anyone to care) and tucked it away on my user talk page. Posting it here for posterity.

I'm toying with the idea of reworking my three main pages to be a little more appealing to the senses. In keeping with each character's theme, look out for the following changes coming soon!
*Atomac will get a scaling slider that goes from microscopic to giant-size! Works with all text and images!
*Wheelman gets tactile with a virtual rubber background. Feels (almost) like the real thing!
*Sludd's Sewer Scratch and Sniff!
*Poltermask fades right before your eyes depending on your viewing angle! (When the article gets done that is.)

Just an update, this month is a special theme month for PDB's Page of the Month. In a test format, moderators will choose the winner from player nominations for the theme.

Also, I really wanted to highlight that the PDB is used by a lot of members from outside the CORP community. Try to invite people you see to create pages there and to get involved in the voting. We are hoping that the PDB will be a great place to showcase quality pages from all over the CO community.

Please help encourage players to become involved in adding to the knowledge base that we have, and to help increase the quality of pages by adding new ideas, new layout design concepts, and new enthusiasm to bringing their characters' to life on our database.

Thanks!

Necro, but this is kinda important.

I had only found out about this after the fact, but we had a case of vandalism go through the site today-- with a couple of accounts replacing article content of some pages with questionable stuff. I haven't seen it, nor do I particularly care to, but I do want to thank those who managed to catch on to the malicious activity and help the modship deal with it.

Should stress though, that "counterattacking" said troll users with your own offensive language/imagery in any capacity should be avoided. It's bad enough that PDb is working to shed a reputation for such things in the first place.

On a sidenote.

Tell @Liath to stop deleting my pages that are empty for the time being, because I'm working on them, but clearly marked with WIP header.

If he can't understand what WIP means, he might not be suited for the moderator job.

Especially when said page is linked from my user page...

The only comment that I can make on this is that it is a moderator's job to delete pages that have been left empty or placeholder for an extended period of time to not waste server space, because it'll add up over time. If you make sure that your WIP page has a template or some kind of substantial info, then it's more or less safe.

It had clear WIP marking and it was linked from my user page.
Now I undid deletion and pages are with text+images, so hopefully this moderator will keep their hands away.
I don't thank him for being overzealous.

People make mistakes, and those mistakes were clearly easily fixed too. Don't be a dick.

So, apparently the old captcha system kicked the bucket without warning a few weeks back, thus making it so nobody could make new accounts.

After poking around with things this has been fixed with a new captcha. Please let me know (by either sending me a CORP mail, yelling out for Razira on the CORP channel, or poking at me directly as I'm on more often than not via external chat) if it's not working.

But I did make a few test accounts and the three captcha types should all be working. Two require you to basically put in information that a Google link directly provides you (although one needs the number to be in 24 hour format, not the 12 hour one that Google provides), while the third is a simple and randomly generated reading comprehension question.

The best part? It's all locally stored on the server (short of the Google questions, but I don't think they're going anywhere), so it won't fail again.

Sorry for the delay.

Hello,

Sorry if this is the wrong place to mention this, but currently, the PDB is down. I'm getting the following error when accessing the page (http://primusdatabase.com/index.php?title=Main_Page):

Sorry! This site is experiencing technical difficulties.

Try waiting a few minutes and reloading.

(Can't contact the database server: Access denied for user 'pri1324806170395'@'50.63.194.31' (using password: YES) (pri1324806170395.db.11743182.hostedresource.com))

You can try searching via Google in the meantime.
Note that their indexes of our content may be out of date.

I appreciate the PDB greatly, so wanted to call your attention to it. Thank you.

It's probably because Bob is moving PDb to a new server/host/summat with more space. There's been an announcement on the site's main page for a while now (that PDb had outgrown the space we had avaiable and would be moving), so it's a huge oversight that we didn't relay the information to this thread as well.

Yeah, that's exactly what is going on right now. The server is getting an upgrade at its old host and will be back up as soon as it can be (which shouldn't be too long).

The bigger delay is getting the new IP address of the PDB to all of the ISPs - that might take 24 to 48 hours. I'll let you all know once I see it pop back up for me (or anyone else can here too).

LOL, Swix.

Apparently due to the Holiday, the server move has taken longer than expected. They're saying Monday it should all be up and running, better than ever.

Sorry for the delay, folks.

Okay, so, the site has finished moving over and should appear in the next 24-48 hours or so depending on how fast your ISP updates their DNS entries.

Only one downside - somewhere between the old host getting upset for using too much database space and the actual move, some stuff was lost. Basically a snapshot of the database file was grabbed and moved over. Problem is I do not know when exactly that snapshot was taken.

Current guess is that a week or so of updates just went poof into the void.

Nothing ever goes as smoothly as it should, and I'm sorry to report the above. But with the no warning I got when the site came down in November, it was apparently the best that could've been done.

So, if you're like me, you've probably realised the text on the PDB is all fucked up and unaligned and stupid now. Any ideas on how to make it not fucked up and unaligned and stupid or is it just a metaphor for life now?

Can you screenshot what it looks like for you? It remained in great condition for me and doesn't look any different in my opinion.
"The world,' said he, pursuing this train of thought, 'ridicules a passion which it seldom feels; its scenes, and its interests, distract the mind, deprave the taste, corrupt the heart, and love cannot exist in a heart that has lost the meek dignity of innocence. Virtue and taste are nearly the same, for virtue is little more than active taste, and the most delicate affections of each combine in real love."
