People have been asking me recently what they can do to help. You don't even need to be a mod to improve the channel. Here's a few things you can do as a community to help improve the quality of CORP.

1) Don't argue: It's one thing to debate a topic, but debates turn into heated arguments more often then not. If you're discussing something and feel yourself getting hot under the collar, take a step back or change the subject. Your not going to be heralded as a champion by winning the argument anyways.

2)Host Events: Everyone is always wanting people to join events. But not many people are actually throwing any. next time you're looking for RP, consider hosting your own event, It's also a great way to get your character acquainted with other heroes, and a good way to let people who may want to throw an event in the future a chance to see your RP style.

3)Chat: CORP has far too many lurkers and people who just don't say anything. Speak up, make friends, that's what CORP is for.

4)Use the Forums: The forums are a great tool for scheduling and learning things about the game. there are people on it all the time that can help with builds, character backgrounds, and event get events started. The calendar is pretty much dedicated to it.

5)Help your fellow CORPers: If someone needs help, don't be a sarcastic jerk, just offer help, It's not like you're losing anything out of it. Even if you can't help, sarcasm has a place, and people asking for help usually isn't it.

6) Don't be so Jaded: Almost every single day, I see someone complaining about something in champs. Be it content or difficulty, lack vehicles, or CORP itself. We have a forum called "The Volcano" just for venting and complaining. Use that, not the channel.

7) Be a good example: When you're in CORP, other people, who aren't in CORP, will take notice of it, and judge the community by how you act. I'm not saying you need to be an angel. but you shouldn't be a devil either.

And

7) Be part of the community: This should go without saying, but a LOT of people tell me. "I used to be more active in CORP, but..." Well, be active again. It's not going to get better if you leave and stop using it. Whatever problem you had with it is just going to get larger cause there's less of the opposite to even it out. If there's things about it you don't like, that's fine. It happens. That's not a good reason to shun the whole community.

Thanks for the positivity, Caps. I'm not in game much these days but, health permitting, I'll try to do something.
New sig to follow.

It might be a nice idea to make the text orange? It's easier to read (and also kinda the official CORP font color!) and the red just gives the impression this is a list of bad things or warnings or something. Most of the stuff on there is great and there's some solid examples on how to contribute in the best possible ways. Good message.

I've personally not noticed trouble in the in-game CORP channel lately. Hope it stays this way.

If I can make a quick observation/ suggestion in regards to the forums though?
I don't want to take away from the positive message, so I will put it in spoilers.

Why don't you just get rid of The Volcano section? It caters to and collect all of the bad stuff you just listed as things you would ideally want to avoid and stay well clear of in an online community. Arguments, drama, flaming, trolling, (public) venting and so on.

I realize what the intended purpose behind it was when the section was originally created, but it appears to mostly produce the opposite result. It invites members to air their dirty laundry in public, spark up arguments, troll others and so on. Basically everything the OP/ this thread is trying to discourage.
The select few positive threads in there (which are really not that many) could have easily been put (and maybe even been a better fit) under a different forum section, like the General Discussion forum. The rest of it is just a hot mess, waiting to erupt into argument.

I might be alone in this, so perhaps it's an idea to start a poll and ask the community whether they want to keep or discard The Volcano section? I have no idea if this has been proposed before and I apologize if this is not the time and place for it, this just seemed very relevant and directly related to some of the points that were brought up in the original post.

Thanks for the feedback, I'll probably change the colors. As for the Volcano section, Here's the thing.

If I took it away, people would post negative things regardless, and they would be in the normal, everythread. People would go to the feedback section and read about the negativity there. Having the Volcano means that people have a place that they're supposed to post it in. Arguments and negativity are contained to one thread, and its the users option to click on that thread, instead of having it all over the channel where people may, or may not want to see it.

Basically, the Volcano is there so I only have one mess to clean up, instead of several.

I think that might be a little too optimistic. People will click links to unread posts. Trolls will troll.

The different font color looks so good though, I approve. Just a lovely shade of CORP orange.

Either way, Volcano isn't going anywhere.

People need a place to vent. As long as it's respectable, They might as well use the volcano.

if they break rules/namedrop, I delete it anyways. It's not as though it's a lawless land. If the negativity gets contained there, It's better then having them complain in the channel itself.
