Hello, curious onlookers! I'm kyrtmalthorn and I'm looking to hook up with some fellow RPers somehow. I'm pretty laid back, but I take my RP very seriously. I typically prefer smaller SGs, enjoy characters with well developed three-dimensional personalities, and regularly advancing storylines. I'm in central US and mostly available in the evenings, 5 to 10 pm CST.

I played CO quite a bit some four years back - experienced RPer since long before that. I'm on Star Trek Online a bit these days for the RP over there, but never really found my groove in CO. Had a few characters in Blackwatch Defenders, but never quite clicked - possibly because mostly they weren't as active as I was at the time, I never really got hooked by any of the storylines they had going. Fast forward past my long hiatus, I realize I had churned out about a dozen characters under level 20. Lately I decided to start the game fresh with a clean slate and NOT MAKE ALTS. At least not until I have a firmly established character. That's not going to happen without some RP group. I've got two concepts rolling - one magic based, one mutant/tech based, so may depend on the team dynamics or theme if I do find an SG.

However... The title question is a legitimate one; I've no major aspirations to lead a group, however, I can't seem to locate any obvious signs of active SG's with heavy RP these days. I'm hoping I'm wrong and throwing this out here, but if this falls through I'm kinda considering running and interest check for forging a new SG if I can round up a couple of you guys with interest, and compatible schedules.

There's a fair number of active heavy rp groups but as you said you'd prefer something small and most of these groups do too. This basically means while most of them won't downright turn down a probable new member they don't consistently or actively advertise themselves making them a bit hard to find unless you're told about these groups in advanced.

Starting one is always a good alternative so long as you find enough people. And leading a group osn't particularly hard if the group is small save for scheduling. Last 2-3 times I've tried failed due to never being able to get enough folks on at the same time rip.

Understandable, about not advertising. How does one go about finding one of these small active groups?

In my personal experience it's often happenstance. You happen to see someone who says in their bio they're recruiting, see a group somewhere and ask, or get an offer from someone you know who happens to be in a group (which, thanks to most of the rp playerbase being altaholics happens a lot more then you'd think). Basically, the rp community is a community and acts as such. The longer you're a part of it the more others know you.

You can also just put in your bio that you're looking for a heavy rpsg. People who are actively recruiting that try to be more selective about it will message you if you seem to "click" right.

How to be known by said community without being in an SG? Am I missing something here? Hate to be a bother...

The entire community doesn't exist in Supergroups. Join the CORP discord or in-game channel. Hang in some of the rp instances like Caprice or Sherr's. Eventually you meet people and start doing things outside.

I've decided to let SGs come to me, but I've had plenty of random RP aside the point. As dorky as it sounds, I've yet to break the current character I'm trying out unless I totally can tell the person isn't an RPer. Granted, so far its mostly been idle social moments of what good or evil we've been up to, and one scenario of being in a very small event. Chin up from a Newb

Note to self: Join both of these too, because I didn't know either existed RIP.

It really takes a lot to organize a team and keep people interested, even if the group is small. And as mentioned earlier, people need to have aligning schedules in order to make it work, otherwise it's just a collective of representing bodies and naught more.

Trust me, I still have ideas I haven't gotten off the ground for months because of how difficult it is to co-ordinate with a (potentially) global audience. (And yet every couple of months I still try anyway because I'm stubborn.)
