Hello

So, there seems to be some intrest in an RP SG project that I first brought up here. So, this thread is meant to be used to brainstorm it into reality. :)

First of all, let me put forth my intentions. My hope was/is to get together a core group of players that are dedicated to running an SG. The core group is the #1 most important thing, I think. Secondly, I'd like the SG to host both RP AND game content events. Everything else about the SG is negotiable.

So if you're one of the people who contacted me regarding the idea and agree that the two points mentioned above are vital, then feel free to use this thread to post your personal ideas as to the group. Some of the things we would need to decide together are;

SG Name
SG Theme
Any rules you feel we need to adhere to
Rank structure (if any)
Anything else you'd like to add

Once we've hashed this out a bit and have a basic structure laid out, we can actually create the SG in-game and set up a website of our own to switch to for further discussion.

Here are my thoughts;

SG Theme: Personally I'm very much a 'classic hero' type, preferring the cape & cowl type Golden/Silver age hero look. My preference for a theme therefore would be something along the lines of the classic Justice League or Avengers. This kinda stuff;

SG Name: Something appropriate to the theme :) I like the term 'sentinel' and have used it in several SG names, so some ideas might be... Supreme Sentinels, Sentinel Squadron, Millennium Sentinels... etc

Rules: I prefer to keep things as rules-lite as possible. I would probably enforce theme-based rules, in that member characters' names and costumes would have to fit the theme.

Rank Structure: I have been in SG's with strict rank structures and ones with no ranks at all. Both can work, so I have no real preference here.

Other: Like I said, I'd like an active calendar with regularly scheduled events. Team night, RP night, Costume Contests, etc.

Comments?

SG Name: I like a few, but I am sure most are taken. Always been partial to the Justice Vanguard, or Vanguard of Justice. Maybe the Justice Knights or Knights of Justice?

SG Theme: Justice League/Avengers is my preferred style.

Any rules you feel we need to adhere to: I think there should be a theme, and the characters should stick to it. I wouldn't want the group to have anti-hero killing types, such as Deadpool.

Rank structure (if any): I always liked the squad structure, perhaps something along the lines of a tanking squad and an infiltration squad...with leaders as the captains of their squads. I never liked the normal type of structure....leader....captain...soldier....rookie....do it differently.

Anything else you'd like to add: I had this idea of a monthly theme RP event. Maybe have members submit an RP idea with a super villain to use, other members vote....then the start of the month that story will be the RP event. Pick one day a week and break the event into 4 smaller RP events. Also a monthly meeting IC and OOC, so everyone can be on board with the upcoming event.

Those are all good ideas. I particularly like the 'villain of the month' RP event idea. Eventually we could all build a villain and have our own adversary villain group to oppose our SG.

The general consensus of those I've spoke with in-game is that the Justice League/Avengers theme is the most popular, so unless anyone has a better idea I think its safe to say we'll go with that. Also it has been suggested that our group be connected with (or at least allied to) UNTIL. I like that idea as well, as it allows for an international/global flavor.

You can count on me to join up of course but not as an officer, I simply do not have the playtime for that. I do like what I seeing here so far though and wanted to say good job.

I think it would be interesting for the theme to have a hook that while classic, make it an alternative to other "classic hero groups".

AC, you would be welcome, in whatever capacity you choose.

Ockbald... What would you suggest? Assuming I'm understanding you, two 'hook' ideas I've played with in the past are:

Intenational: where each member represents a separate nation.

21st Century Sentinels; This was a small project I played with for a while, where the heroes were all Millennials in their early 20's (not teens). They were trying to create their own identity, separate from their forebears. Their tag lines were "Heroes for a new Millennium!" and "Not your granddady's Supergroup!"

Are these the sort of things you meant? Do you have any other ideas along those lines?

Indeed that would be something that would attract a certain type of character, of player even.

It needs to be something that needs to be just right - Too specific, and people would have to create completely new characters, too broad and it's better to just keep it as a classic team.

The SG has been created in-game, named the 'Justice Vanguard'. This is a working title and may be subject to change.

Please let me know the name of the character you wish to join with and I'll send an invite. As of right now we have a classic Justice League/Avengers theme, so keep that in mind. I'll assume you're joining as an officer, unless you specify otherwise.

Please feel free to contact me with any questions or comments you might have. SG website coming soon!

"Justice Vanguard" is actually a very evocative team name from the point of view of the official Champions setting. The New York-based Justice Squadron is the oldest active superhero team today, and one of the most famous and respected; but its most renowned past member was Vanguard, the Champions analogue to Superman, who died saving the world during the Battle of Detroit. The combination of those names would strongly resonate for people on Champs Earth.

If you want to keep the name I would suggest running with its implications, in order to get both the style and distinctiveness you want for this team. All its members could have been inspired by superheroes of the past in one way or another, either through a personal connection to a hero, or just as an admirer. They would aspire to live up to the legacy and the ideals of their predecessors, as a new generation striving to carry the torch forward into the future.
